Naqsh-e Jahan Square

Naqsh-e Jahan Square is one of the world's great urban ensembles and a UNESCO World Heritage Site at the heart of Isfahan. Laid out in the Safavid era under Shah Abbas I, it brings together the Shah Mosque, Sheikh Lotfollah Mosque, Ali Qapu Palace and the Qaysariyeh Bazaar in a single monumental composition.

The square was conceived as a stage for royal ceremony, commerce and civic life. Its vast open space, arcades and carefully aligned façades still define the visual identity of Isfahan and remain among the finest achievements of Persian architecture and city planning.
